Editing and Proof-Reading
A fresh pair of eyes is imperative! Never send anything out without first checking the spelling, the grammar, the tone of content etc. It’s too easy to simply read what you MEANT to write as opposed to what’s actually on the page! We are all human so inevitably there will be the occasional mistake, apostrophes in the wrong place, the word bear instead of bare! Call in the assistance of colleagues and friends and try not to rush things out.
Having worked for a number of newspapers over the years, I know that editorial deadlines can be very tight and there have been occasions whereby articles have been put in the papers without having been proofed. Never a good thing! A miss-spelling can halt the flow of information and significantly decrease a reader’s interest and connection with the content.
